What is Craft Chipboard?

Chipboard can come in different thicknesses ranging from 8mm-20mm depending on the project's needs. It comes with one side textured or untextured so it has an unfinished look.

This material is also known as cardboard but it is different.

What are Chipboard Used For?

Chipboard can be used for a variety of projects such as making letters, scrapbooking and more! You could even make your own custom size with it.

It's best to use chip board if you want an easy project that doesn't require heavy tools or difficult cuts because this material is very fragile.

What can I use instead of Chipboard?

There are a few options that you could try if you don't want to use chip board, plastic coated plywood or waterproof mdf for your project including: paper, large sheets of cardstock and balsa wood.

If the craft requires any heavy tools such as a table saw or jigsaw, plastic coated plywood is your best bet.

What is the difference between chipboard and cardboard?

Chipboard can come in different thicknesses depending on what you are planning to do with it.

It's also textured or untextured for an unfinished look while cardboard has a smooth surface covered with glossy paper that comes in various colors (but usually white).

Chip board will be better if you need something light weight and easy like letters because this material isn't very durable and requires less cuts than thicker materials such as plastic coated plywood.

Cardstock would work well too but might not be waterproof unless treated first. If your project needs heavy tools like a table saw or saber saw then plastic coated plywood would be the best option.

What can I use instead of plastic coated plywood or chipboard?

Plastic coated plywood is a good material for crafts that require heavy tools but if you don't need those then there are other options such as balsa wood, paper or large sheets of cardstock.

The latter two materials will not work well with projects that involve cutting because they're very fragile and lack durability like plastic coated plywoods does.

If your project requires any sort of adhesive then this should also be considered when looking at what to replace plastic coated plywood with since it's waterproof and durable which makes using adhesives easier on both surfaces being glued together (i.e.: chipboard).

Are chipboards recyclable?

Yes, plastic coated plywoods and waterproof mdfs are both recyclable.

Plastic coated plywood has a plastic coating that can be peeled off which leaves the material lightweight while waterproof mdf is made of recycled materials including posts-consumer waste like plastics, paper, or wood chips.

It also doesn't have any adhesives so it's low in fumes which makes recycling easier on your lungs because you don't need to worry about inhaling harmful chemicals from glue chipboard!

Adhesive: What does this mean for crafts with chipboard?

Chipboard works best when using lighter weight projects such as letters but if you're looking at something more permanent then adhesive should be considered before starting

- especially if your project requires a lot of cuts.

The adhesive will help the material stand up to wear and tear better than just using glue sticks which might not be waterproof unless treated first-chipboard.

What is plastic coated plywood or chipboard?

Plastic coated plywoods are made out of plastic that's been melted with resin, chopped sheets or veneers, then pressed onto a high quality formaldehyde-free wood panel substrate (i.e.: MDF) for durability.

It comes in many different thicknesses from .75" - 12", making it good for projects like shelves, table tops or anything you need something durable but lightweight!

This type of plastic coating can also come clear so you don't have to worry about painting over if your project requires color since it won't change the plastic.

Is waterproof mdf the same as plastic coated plywood or chipboard?

No, waterproof MDF is made from recycled materials including posts-consumer waste like plastics, paper or wood chips and doesn't have any adhesives so it's low in fumes which makes recycling easier on your lungs because you don't need to worry about inhaling harmful chemicals from glue!

It also comes with a protective coating for outdoor use that will not peel off but might get damaged if used at home where there are more risks of water damage.

The only thing they share (besides coming out of an industrial process) is how lightweight each material can be making them ideal for craft projects!

What does this mean for decking out your cardstock for a new project?

If you're looking to cover up your cardstock then plastic coated plywoods are the best option because they can come clear or have any color applied to them. If this material is too expensive then waterproof mdf would be an affordable alternative but it won't give as much protection against water damage so its surface might need more care than plastic coated plywood would. You could also paint over chipboard if the finished look doesn't matter in which case it's lighter weight and cheaper!

What is balsa wood and what does it do well?

Balsa Wood is lightweight, durable, and strong - making it ideal for crafting projects that require little cuts like scrapbooking but heavier tools such as table saws.

It's also much cheaper than plastic coated plywood or waterproof mdf and can be cut easily with a utility knife!

What is cardboard or chipboard?

Cardboard is made out of recycled paper sheets that are glued together to form one flat sheet.

Paper bleeds through which means this type of material only works best if you're not looking for anything heavy duty like plastic-coated plywoods would be but it makes up for its lack in strength by being lightweight, cheap, and easy to work with since there isn't any adhesive needed!

Can I use chipboard instead of cardboard or chipboard?

Chipboards come in several different weights from as thin as .38" - thick enough at 12".

The difference between these two materials is that chipboard won't bleed through when you cut it which can help with your project's look while cardboard will leave a mark where the blade has been cutting.

What are some other materials I could use instead of plastic coated plywood or or chipboard?

If plastic-coated plywoods or waterproof mdf is too expensive, then balsa wood might be another option if you're not looking to do anything big like build shelves but want something still durable and light weighty.

Gator board is also worth mentioning because this type of material comes in several different weights from .38" - 12", making it good for projects like letters!
